Which car would you gladly drive (read, HOON) for a day, but never own for a multitude of reasons, which could include fear of being seen in it or having to offer a detailed explanation to every bystander? A small caveat here, you must be able to afford it.
My first thought was the obvious, Jalop answer, MIATA. However, I own an FR-S and clearly have already made my choice against that fine piece of automotive machinery.
Next up? The Ford Raptor, looks mean as hell and pretty cool to boot. Only problem is the granola munching, Birkenstock (I guess Tom's are in now) SF Bay area folks would probably murder me and the bro truck mafia would say I haven't lifted the truck quite enough.
So here I am, and there is one car that somehow alluded me throughout my car shopping test drives. That is, the Fiat Abarth. The car is intoxicating in how quirky, nuts sounding and full of character it is. Every time I see one on the street I want to toss the man (its always a man) my FR-S keys for the day.

I love seeing Fiat 500s on the road. Abarth trim or not, they're such happy little cars.

Something AMG, M/// or similar heavy and powerful luxury barge... Honestly, i want to replace my 3dr hatchback with a Miata or similar 2-seat roadster style car, because i don't want or need a backseat, ever...

Excellent question...my first thought is Miata as well. I have emence respect for them but I'm just not big on drop-tops...but maybe I would go with something more extreme like an Atom or a Morgan. I'd also love to try a Brabus SL65 for a day and see how many tires I could annihilate in an hour.

A Triumph, MG, or other British roadster.
The multitude of reasons for both wanting to drive one and not wanting to own one fill volumes of the Jalopnik archives.

The fact that it would have to be something that I can afford pretty much leaves out anything I'd actually want to drive for a day.

Ariel Atom. My love for bikes crosses over to a lightweight four wheeled car with exceptional handling. It's completely impractical though.

This:
No way I could justify buying one, but would be a hoot for a day. Especially if I could run an auto-x with it.

Probably top of the list is the E46 M3. As a staunch Alfisti, and lover of Jags, Triumphs, Lancias and Maseratis I doubt I'll ever own one.
However, I do want to see what all the fuss is about. For me, it's pretty much the perfect balance of power, speed, enjoyment, comfort and practicality in a modern car. It's the benchmark for modifying any modern car I come across. If I can get it as good as an E46 M3, then I've succeeded.
The same goes for the classic 911 in its various guises.

I would choose a Prius,.....Or something equally slow....My reasoning is, I actually kinda like the Prius....Its not a terrible car, it does not ask for much. Just to be fueled occasionally, but I can not see myself living with one forever.

Having completed a few roadtrips in one, it does what it was intended to very well. That is, sip gas minimally and provide transport.

And that is why I want one...It does an excellent job at what we ask of it.
You are here and want to get there without the gas "dots" moving much...I'm considering buying the hatchback one as a daily driver...and the Cobalt would be the weekend fun car.

Could you have enough fun in two days to make up for five in a Prius? That's asking a lot ;)

300+whp and 400+ wtq says yes.
As does sub 5 second 0-60 times and 12.6 quarter mile times....

That'd do it! I'm guessing it'd cancel out the economy of the Prius though!

I manage 20ish MPG on track days.
The car isn't too bad on gas. It's such a pain daily driving it though...

An Amphicar would be cool... for a few hours. Then you would realize that you had a bad car and a bad boat.
